Day-by-Day Itinerary

Arrive in Paro

Arrive at Paro International Airport. Transfer to your hotel. Final gear check and briefing with your trek leader.

Paro to Shana (2,800m)

Drive to Drukgyal Dzong and begin trekking along the Paro Chhu river through beautiful forests and traditional villages. Camp at Shana.

Shana to Thangthangkha (3,600m)

Trek through dense rhododendron and pine forests, crossing several suspension bridges. Views of Mount Jomolhari appear as the valley opens up.

Thangthangkha to Jangothang (4,100m)

Spectacular trek with views of Jomolhari and Jichu Drake. Camp at Jangothang, one of the most beautiful campsites in the Himalayas, with a glacial lake at the base of the mountain.

Acclimatization Day at Jangothang

Rest day with optional hikes to nearby lakes and ridges. Acclimatization is crucial for the high passes ahead. Stunning views of the surrounding peaks.

Jangothang to Lingshi (4,300m)

Cross the first high pass, Nyile La (4,800m), with breathtaking panoramic views. Descend into the remote Lingshi valley, home to a historic dzong and scattered villages.

Lingshi to Chebisa (4,200m)

Trek through alpine meadows and yak pastures. Visit Lingshi Dzong and cross the Yalila Pass (4,900m). Camp at the tiny village of Chebisa.

Chebisa to Shomuthang (4,300m)

Climb to the Gombu La pass (5,100m), one of the highest on the trek. Descend into a remote valley with stunning views of the Himalayan range in every direction.

Shomuthang to Robluthang (4,400m)

Cross the Jare La pass (5,200m) and descend into a wide glacial valley. Camp at Robluthang, a starkly beautiful high-altitude campsite surrounded by rugged peaks.

Robluthang to Lemithang (4,300m)

Cross the Shinje La pass (5,200m), the highest point of the entire trek. Descend into the beautiful valley of Lemithang, where you are rewarded with views of the mighty Gangkar Puensum.

Lemithang to Laya (3,800m)

Descend through juniper forests into the lush Laya valley. Reach the village of Laya, home to the Layap people, known for their distinctive conical bamboo hats. Rest and explore.

Rest Day in Laya

Rest day in the fascinating village of Laya. Visit local homes, interact with the Layap community, and enjoy hot stone baths. A well-earned break before the second half of the trek.

Laya to Rodophu (4,200m)

Trek through alpine terrain and cross the Tsemo La pass (4,900m). Camp at Rodophu in a high valley surrounded by dramatic peaks and yak herder encampments.

Rodophu to Narethang (4,400m)

Cross the Bjele La pass (4,900m) and descend into the remote Narethang valley. The landscape here is vast, wild, and untouched. Camp at Narethang.

Narethang to Thanza (4,100m)

Cross the Singye La pass (5,000m), the final high pass of the trek. Descend into the remote and beautiful Phochhu valley to the village of Thanza.

Thanza to Tso Chen (4,600m)

Trek along the Phochhu river and climb to the glacial lake Tso Chen, a stunning turquoise lake surrounded by sheer mountain walls. Camp by the lake.

Tso Chen to Gophu (4,300m)

Continue through the beautiful Lunana region, known for its dramatic landscapes and remote villages. Camp at Gophu with views of the surrounding peaks.

Gophu to Jakar & Departure

Trek to the roadhead and drive to Jakar in the Bumthang valley. Transfer to the airport for your onward journey, having completed one of the greatest treks on earth.
